| Ken
Sharp - "Sonic Crayons" |
| On his newie,
Ken is ably assisted by Ritchie Rubini (Caulfields), Rob
Bonfiglio (Skies Of America/Wanderlust) and Chip Z’Nuff
and Donnie Vie from Enuff Z’Nuff, staking out an edgier
direction than his two previous, critically acclaimed
albums, "1301 Highland Avenue" and "Happy
Accidents". “I was in a much darker place while
making this record,” Ken admits. “Life was throwing me a
bunch of curve balls and this record reflects a more
downbeat and depressing time for me. I half
jokingly call it my Prozac record.” Explaining the
meaning behind the album title, he states, “I look at
songwriting like a painter. Whether writing or
recording, I create with colors in my mind, sonic
colors. You have an empty canvas and then it’s up to you
to create you own distinctive palette of sounds.”
"A stunning collection of power pop confections that
brings to mind the likes of Squeeze, Paul McCartney,
Todd Rundgren and Queen while maintaining an identity
all its own!” - Friday Morning Quarterback "He
creates his own pop planet, swirling and always tuneful"
- Amplifier "His best album to date. The songs are
chock full of engaging twists and turns, clever
arrangements and cool sonic surprises. If you're a fan
of Beatlesque power pop, you're sure to enjoy this
CD." - Eric Carmen Right on, Eric! We
agree! "Why Girls Cry" could've been on Todd
Rundgren's "Runt" or "Ballad Of" records! Lots of
guitars, tasty keyboards, and hooks dominate this
one! Color us POP! GREAT!!!

"The Revola Rock Machine Turns You On" |
| The first ever
Rev-Ola sampler (and take-off on a late 60's CBS
Records UK sampler) is a fuzzy, belligerently
catchy batch of groovy underground UK psychedelic
rock and pop - featuring mostly British acts such
as pop-psych heroes Turquoise, Octopus, The Mirage and
Sun Dragon as well as singer-songwriters Tony Hazzard
and Nick Garrie, it also includes previously uncompiled
tracks by cult pop act Majority One and completely
unreleased tracks by anglophile acoustic trio Mortimer,
UK psych legends Tintern Abbey and Ewan Stephens of
Turquoise! Many of the artists here take an
adventurous spirit and a sometimes driving guitar sound
from the Psych movement, but there's a focused
tunefulness that's more in the fuzzy guitar pop
realm. Nice stuff! Titles include "The
River" by Octopus, "Goodnight Sweet Josephine" by Tony
Hazzard, "Game" by Majority One, "Second Floor" by
Mortimer, "Woodstock" by Turquoise, "Is Anybody Home?"
by Mirage, "Cynthia Gerome" by Chrysalis, "Stand Up And
Be Judged" by Ewan Stephene, "Light On The Wall" by Gun,
"Jeremiah Dreams" by Jawbone and more. Track
annotations by Stefan Granados and Rev-Ola's very own
Andy Morten! Re-mastered in the usual dazzling
Rev-Ola style and housed in authentic late '60s
sampler-style artwork! GREAT!!!
